In the year 1866 Hualapai warriors attacked Buckman stage station near what is now Exit 91 on Interstate 40. Shortly thereafter the Hualapai Indians the station and the people at the stage station ran into a rock playhouse that the children had.

The fight went on until finally the Indians were driven off. The man who ran the stage station then changed the name of the station from "Buckman State Station" to Fort Rock.
