I-40 enters Arizona from California at a crossing of the Colorado River at Topock in Mohave County. The Needles are mountain sky piercing spires in Mohave County just south of I-40.

The Needles climbs to 1070 feet above sea level. There are signs clearly marking Needle Mountain Road.

At first glance it looks like the road ends just off the interstate but it continues a couple miles, Beware, it does gets rough and narrow. Passenger vehicles need to take caution as there are areas of loose sand so stay on hard road surfaces

You can camp almost anywhere. There are campsites and firepits along the road. The area is hot and dry desert wastelands. The first camp area is like a big parking area and is best for RVs.
