Between Kingman and Oatman, Arizona, Mohave County 10, better known as Historic Route 66, passes through the summit of Sitgreaves Pass in the Black Mountains, at an elevation of 3556 feet.
Right at the top of the pass there is a pull off where you can stop and take pictures. It affords a great view of the surrounding country including Bullhead City, Arizona and Laughlin, Nevada.
The pass was named for Captain Lorenzo Sitgreaves. As a lieutenant in the Topographical Engineers, in 1851 Sitgreaves led an exploring expedition over the 35th Parallel Route from Zuni, New Mexico, to the Colorado River at Yuma. |
